How do I find a good licensed acupuncturist?
Any acupuncturist in Michigan who is not licensed as and MD or DO with the State Licensing Board is practicing medicine without a license. It is strongly advised to use extreme caution when seeking the services of such individuals.
Although many acupuncturists or healers claim to be doctors in their native land, unless they are licensed as an MD or DO in Michigan, they are in violation of state rules and are considered practicing without a license. If you find an acupuncturist who claims to be a licensed physician you may verify their licensure by going to the following web site:

Remember, there are many doctors who cannot obtain licensure in this state. Unlicensed doctors are unable to acquire professional liability insurance (malpractice insurance) and you have no recourse in the event there is a complication. Obtaining care by an unlicensed practitioner is risky business. There is usually a reason they practice out of their home, or non-professional setting. There is also a good reason they provide services for much cheaper than a licensed physician. They have no overhead, unsubstantiated training, no malpractice insurance and no business providing care against state rules.
