
Vitamin Therapy
Vitamins have been known to be a vital and critical component to general health and well being of all living things. Vitamin deficiency used to be thought of as rare in the United States. The typical American Diet is not deficient in vitamins, the ability of many individuals to absorb those vitamins, minerals and nutrients has become depleted through the consumption of saturated fats, polyhydrogenated oils, chemically altered foods, commercially prepared foods, chemical additives and food colorings. If you take a multi-vitamin or even large doses of vitamins, this does not insure that you are absorbing those vitamins. Many Americans have a reduced capacity to absorb certain vitamins such as B12 (requires intrinsic factor in the stomach) due to the use of certain drugs or surgery. Certain foods, some medications and chronic exposure to low dose antibiotics (in meat, poultry and milk) can reduce vitamin absorption as well. Taking large doses of oral vitamins in these instances is ineffective due to the inability to absorb these nutrients through the small intestine.
